The game relations section identifies games that are related between themselves and what kind of relationship they have. Some types of relations adds functionality to the website in other sections (for example, adding a game with the "story"-type relation will show the next game in the story in the Story section).
Please be aware that game relations are not subjective and must meet some minimum requirements in order to be accepted. To subjectively associate games that are similar, use the Recommendations section instead.
Relations are bi-directional (i.e., adding a relation from A to B will also create a relation from B to A) and have a reverse relation. This can get a bit confusing, so pay attention when adding a new relation in order to make sure it is properly set.
Relation Types
Sequel (Release)
Indicates that a game was chronologically released after the related game. Each game must have at most 1 relation of this type.
Reverse: Previous Game (Release)
Sequel (Story)
Indicates that the events of a game happen after the related game. A game can have multiple story sequels.
Reverse: Previous Game (Story)
Spiritual Sequel
Indicates that the game shares a significant history with the related game. Only add this type of relation between games that share key developers (usually directors, producers and other lead jobs) or a large amount of staff from the original and are reasonably similar, thematically or design-wise.
For games that are just "inspired by" some other game, use the Recommendations section instead.
Reverse: Inspiration (Spiritual Sequel Reverse)
Standalone Expansion
Indicates that the related game expands upon the original game, design or story-wise, while not being considered a full sequel.
Do not use this type of relationship if having the related game is required to play the expansion.
Reverse: Base Game (Standalone Expansion Reverse)
Spin-off
Indicates that the game is a byproduct of the related game, usually going into details of a specific setting or event in the source game.
Reverse: Main Entry (Spin-off Reverse)
Remake
Indicates that the game recreates the related game in a relatively similar way. For games that completely re-imagine the source game, use the Reboot / Re-imagination / Alternate Version relation instead.
Reverse: Original (Remake Reverse)
Reboot / Re-imagination / Alternate Version
Indicates that a game is a recreation of the related game, but in a wildly different way, such as significantly changing the design, the story or even the genre.
When adding this relation, please make sure that the game is actually a recreation, and not a sequel in disguise.
If a game has multiple reboots, re-imaginations or alternate versions, create a relation of this kind between each and all of them.
Reverse: Original (Reboot Reverse)
Total Conversion Mod
Indicates that the game is a Total Conversion Mod of the related game. A Total Conversion is a mod that changes the base game into a completely new game (instead of adding stuff to it).
Reverse: Base Game (Total Conversion Mod Reverse)
Fan Game
Indicates that the game is an unofficial, community-made entry into the franchise, inspired by the related game.
Reverse: Base game (Fan Game Reverse)
Other
A relation used when none of the other types accurately describe the relation between the two games.
This relation is a bit special in the sense that its reverse is itself.
