With update 1.17, we have introduced the Restricted Contents feature, which hides games marked as restricted from various pages in the website. Restricted games are only shown to logged-in users who consented to viewing them.

What is considered "Restricted Content"?

It's hard classifying what kind of content should be restricted and who should be able to see it.

In general, sexually explicit content and excessive realistic violence should be restricted.

The restriction system is not a "free pass" allowing any game to exist in the database. The staff still has the prerogative to remove any game deemed inadequate, such as shovelware, illegal content or games promoting hateful speech.

How does the restrictions system affects the website?

Pages where restricted games are hidden:

• The front page (restricted games are never shown, regardless of user preferences).
• The games and game modes listings.
• The users recommendations pages.
• The users reviews page.
• The details page of a restricted game cannot be accessed unless the user chooses so.

Pages not affected by the restrictions system:

• Games listed under a Franchise, Company, Store or Tag won't be hidden.
• The games rankings.
• The REST API.
• User's personal pages, such as gamelists, wishlists, journals, etc.

Should I mark this game as restricted?

When first adding a game to the database, the user can decide if it should be marked as restricted. After that, only staff members can change their restriction status.

Here are some tips to help you figure out if you should mark a game as restricted or not:

• Games with sexually explicit content should usually be marked as restricted.
• Games that have been refused being sold in stores because of their contents should likely be marked as restricted.
• Games that are under similar restrictions in stores and other websites should probably be marked as restricted. Be aware that an Age Gate is not the same as a restriction system.

If you're still in doubt, reach to any of our staff to discuss with them and reach a conclusion.

Viewing Restricted Games

Follow these steps to be able to view games with restricted contents:

1. Sign in to your account (or create it if you don't have one)
2. Go to your profile editing page (Navbar > Your Username > My Account > Edit Profile).
3. Check the Allow restricted content box.
4. Save the changes.

Conversely, unselect that box or logout to hide games with restricted content.

By default, games with restricted content are disabled for all users.
